Deerfeathers

             Native American Art

Native American culture and especially their art has fascinated me since I walked through remnants of Iroquois Longhouses in upper New York state as a child. I'm awed that no part of any resource around them was wasted, but honored and used for some purpose; that their art took the form of tools and clothing, storytelling dolls and ceremonial regalia. The generic form of Earth Spirituality that all tribes knew to be true, has been my spiritual mantra since those Longhouse days. And although I have not a drop of Native American blood running through my veins, I feel a strong kinship.

Deerfeathers was born of necessity - my need for a drum carrier, my need to work with these wonderous hides.  My intent is not to make money, although I do hope to cover my cost of materials some day. I do it for the love of working with these magnificent deer hides.

Since I started working with hides, I have found a way to support Native Native American art. in 2009 I founded the American Indian Art Dealers Directory on line. It's a place collectors can consult to find dealers who can be trusted to sell authentic Native American Art.

Stop by to see what's going on there at www.pumaprofiles.com and help me support Native American Art.

One of a Kind

A friend of mine asked me to make her son a knife sheath for a knife her father had given him. This sheath is for a 7 inch knife and sells for $45, but can be made for any size knife to be displayed on a wall or carried on a belt.
